Oh! Super Candy

Categories: Culture, Everything

I finished the bag of Super-Lemon candy that Daniel gave me. How could I resist? I mean, the art on the packaging has the words “It’s So Wonderful Candy,” and on the back, “Oh! Super Candy.”

Quoth the candy blog:

Of course I’m a sucker for packaging. How could you resist this sassy lady with her cherry lips and surprised expression heralding “It’s So Wonderful Candy!”

If you’ve never had Super-Lemon before, it’s very sour when you first put it in your mouth, but it’s sweeter by the time you’re finished. Hao amazing (-la)!

Pop it in your mouth and you’re gonna definitely feel that “Oh! Super Candy” feeling. It’s sour. I’m serious. It’s painfully, numbingly sour.

After the salty, toxic waste sourness dissolves away, you’ve got a lemon drop. It’s a good lemon drop, smooth and without too many airgaps. It’s got good essense flavor to it, too.

For more pictures and more to read on it, visit this article on it, “So Wonderful Sour”.

(The photo is of the awesome Group 3 doing a victory pose after winning something.)

This second entry on my blog about CCX is dedicated to everyone who attended the retreat the past weekend.

Let’s begin with the ACC (Ascension Chinese Church, not Atlantic Coast Conference) people:
- No one knows Group 3 Pride better than Ivan!
- Everyone wants to dance like Cecilia does!
- Janice is good at mafia in Ted’s car even when it’s really late at night!
- OK-la, Weikei!
- Thanks, Ted, for letting us play mafia in your car on Saturday night!
- Next time I race Livia, she’s going to win!
- Ariel should talk more!
- Claire was really quiet when we were playing mafia!

Finally, last but not least…
- DAVIN!

Now for the people from JFL:
- All Reuben’s base are belong to God!
- I think Iris should talk more too!
- Lang was brave to enter into a debate with Father Au.
- Derrick asks, “Can I write a check?
- The Last Battle: Mr. Anderson versus Agent Lang.
- It was pretty funny when someone in Plano called Eric to ask him for a ride!
- Wannie went to CCX even though she’s allergic to nature!
- Ben doesn’t like too much Off!
- Ryan had to rescue the croissants during mass!
- Marvin’s got his Langisms down!
- Lisa was a bit late (not that it’s bad– I was too!)!
- The delicious feast Saturday night was prepared by Reuben’s very dedicated mother!
- Virginia once tried to teach me Chinese!
- Iris’s parents have a sense of humor!

Neither from ACC or from MSHJ,
- Father Au is not special!

Whew. I believe that’s everyone… And now there are even more pictures from CCX online! You can see them at Ivan’s flickr (edit: you can go directly to the CCX 05 set of pictures on his flickr here now.

CCX 2005

CCX was awesome– that is, really awesome. For the uninformed, CCX stands for Chinese Catholic Exchange. (Our official CCX website is http://theccx.org.) It was a joint camp/retreat between the two Chinese Catholic churches in Texas, my church near Dallas and the other church in Houston. I left on Thursday and came home today (Sunday).

What can I say as for details? I’ll try to cover some details– there’s so much that’s happened! It was only three days, but those have been the three most meaningful and densely fresh days during my summer vacation so far (and they could very well remain so!).

The Houston people are really cool. Weikei even wore a shirt that just has the word “n00b” on it today. ;D We really are sister churches; JFL and ACC are indeed together.

Besides the Dallas and Houston factors of CCX, there was Father Au. He’s both brilliant and funny. (In some ways he reminds me of Father Abbot at Cistercian. They both sometimes seem to be a bit crazy, and at the same time, they’re both funny. XD) He talked about how “special” is used to denote a cheap sale or clearance at a store– we’re not special; we’re different and unique– not special– not cheap!

Another noteworthy topic (in my opinion) he discussed focused on the word “respect.” He said very brilliantly that we deserve everyone’s respect. Each one of our lives is worth so much that Jesus died for every one of us. Therefore respect is freely given. We don’t need to earn anyone’s respect, because we know that God has already proven how much we are worth with His life on earth. Have you ever thought of that?

Much thanks go to everyone involved in organizing and participating; without anyone, it wouldn’t have been the same. CCX was very well worth going to. Ask anyone who went. I’m looking forward to the next one, or to any possible upcoming CCX-ish event with ACC. =)

Good night.

Edit: I almost forgot– go look at the list of photos tagged “ccx” on flickr, including my photos and Ryan’s photos (for now– Ivan’s photos will probably be up later). You can also look at the photos I took as a flickr “set” here.
