Cistercian Homecoming 2005
You may have noticed that I haven’t written an insightful persuasive article on this blog for some time, and unfortunately this isn’t one of those. Maybe next time.
Last year’s pre-homecoming dinner was a class activity thing, but this year we split up into various groups. So Amanda and I ate with H.T., Nathan, Monty, and their dates. I’m surprised the dinner organization actually turned out very well– Patrizio’s was a not-extremely-expensive nice restaurant with a nice environment. Recommended, unless you don’t like pasta.
This year’s Homecoming theme was “pirates,” and so the old gym was decorated accordingly. The decorations for the past several? years have all been very elaborate, especially with Father Gregory always acting as a checkpoint guard/pirate of some sort. Many people (more than last year, if I remember correctly) were in theme-related dress (so, something piratey). Fun!
Blackjack and craps returned from last year, and I think holdem was new (I better not get even more comment spam for writing keywords like those). I do okay in blackjack, for the most part, but I need to learn craps. And so it was really funny how when we were trying to get rid of all our chips, we ended up getting the most we ever had (only to lose all the chips again).
Sandstorm is still overplayed, and I wish DJ’s at school dances were more willing to take risks so that they’d play something like William Orbit - Barber’s Adagio for Strings (Ferry Corsten Remix), or even Whiteroom - The White Room. But they won’t. I thought the DJ was decent this time, since he actually mixed and beatmatched. Most DJ’s at school dances only bother to fade out, press stop, and press play. The DJ wasn’t perfect, but he still deserves kudos.
Anyway, it was really fun. The only problem I have with homecoming is that it costs a lot, but it’s not really a problem, since it’s worth it.
Finally, thanks to Amanda for going with me!
